When a Dream turns into a nightmare

Introduction

Fear is a powerful and pervasive emotion that can transform the familiar into the terrifying. In our journey from childhood to adulthood, the places and things we once found comfort in can become sources of anxiety and dread. The poem I am sharing today explores this transformation, reflecting on how childhood innocence gives way to the complex fears of adulthood.

Summary:

The poem begins by contrasting the innocence of childhood with the fears of adulthood. The safe, comforting games of hide and seek have morphed into adult fears and responsibilities, symbolized by the need to protect one's family. The poet describes a once-trusted place, a windowless cabinet, that has now become a source of fear and sorrow. The cabinet, initially a safe haven, is now suffocating, representing how fear can grow and overshadow the mind.

 Poem : ''A Safe Place''

Once The Safest Place On Earth,
Then The Worst Nightmare On a Restless Night.
Childhood comforts might change to adulthood horrors.
Once a comfort game has now become a curse.
We all grew up,
From holding our breaths in a hide & seek game,
To, securing our family with a code name.
We fear everything, we fear everyone,
Can you even think of giving your trust to anyone?

There was a place I entrusted,
It was a cabinet without windows,
Not even sunlight to cast a shadow,
I would challenge the almighty, “Rain us with harrow.”
Cause I am ready in my burrow.
Nothing could touch my single hair,
Try glancing at my family, I dare.

Little did I know,
It was all time wheel show.
I wonder what I ever sow,
To have a large tree of fear in my mind grow,
Now, even a single thought of that place gives me unbearable sorrow.

I fear the empty cabinet devoid of windows,
Which doesn’t even allow any shadows.
It almost takes my breath away,
Maybe all I can ever do is pray.

Conclusion:

This poem serves as a poignant reminder of how our perceptions and emotions evolve over time. The once-safe spaces of our childhood can become the stages for our deepest fears as adults. It is a reflection on how we navigate these changes and the enduring power of fear. Let us be mindful of these transformations and find ways to reclaim our peace and trust in the midst of life's challenges.
